Default Which Lowrider - 2003 or 2006

First a question, does the 2003 Lowrider have a rubber mounted engine. It vibrated pretty good at idle. Didn't get to ride as it was raining.

Bike #1 - 2003 Lowrider with Gold Key package, detachable windshield, backrest, luggage rack, security system, forward controls (must have), smoked lenses, upgraded passenger pegs to match forward controls, laced wheels (YUCK), aftermarket exhaust with the deep harley sound, 40mm Constant Velocity Carb with enricher and accelerator pump (what does this do better that stock carb?), with 10,000 miles for $12,000. Hopefully could get for $11,000 or a little more.

Bike #2 - 2006 Lowrider with backrest, fuel injected, mid controls (would need toreplace withforwards), cast wheels ( I prefer to laced), stock exhaust with 6,000 miles for $14,300. Hopefully, I could get a little less. In addition, I would need to add a windshield and luggage rack, would also do a stage 1 upgrade sometime.

I sat on the 2003 tonight, but the weather kept me from riding it. Vibrated good at idle, which doesn't bother me at all, but does it smooth out out on the road? My current bike a metric cruiser is carbed and I let it warm up so that is not a biggie it is just that with F.I. you can start and go. Wife had plenty of room in the back! Needs a good cleaning, especially the laced wheels (I am not looking forward to that!!!!) and it has already on it the main extras I want.

Is the 2006 with a 6-speed, 49mm forks and fuel injection, worth $2,000-$3,000 more. I would need to add forward controls, luggage rack and windshield for sure. Stage 1 later.

Right now, I am leaning towards the 2003. But the 2006 with fuel injection, cast wheels, 6-speed and 49mm forks is not far behind. With money I save onn the 2003, I could get different wheels when the tores wear out!

Anyway, any advice will greatly be appreciated.

Soon to have my first grandchild, a Harley!!!

Thanks,
Larry

All DYNA's have rubber mounted engines!

2003, is a 5-speed, with the smaller diameter tubing on the frame and 39mm forks

Personally, I think both of them are overpriced!

All that 2003 anniversary stuff mans nothing....every single bike that was made that year was an anniversary bike, so it's really not a rare find!

Sit down, write out all the stuff you want on your bike, then go find on that has it! Don't settle for less! You will regret it if you do!

I was in a similar position as you.
I was comparing an 03 Superglideto an 06 SuperGlide.
Both bikes were used. The 06 was stock with 5000 miles.
The 06 was about $2000 more than the 03 as far as asking price.
The 03 had mini apes and associated cables, jetted with SEII's, stage 1, saddlebags, sissy bar, windshield, hway pegs, saddleman seatand a few pieces of chrome. It only had 1000 miles on it. I was hooked on gunmetal blue.
I went with the 03 because it had just about every mod that I would have done anyway.
I'm very happy with my decision.

My 03 engine is rubber mounted. It vibrates at idle (I like the feel) but smooths out when you take off.

Good luck with your not so easy decision.
Either way.....enjoy the ride.

IMO go for the'06, particualrly if you're going to be doing a lot of miles, and intend to keep it for a few years. Why? Because the six speed box, EFI, and revised suspension set-up completely transformed the Low Rider. However, if you want to own an obsolete bike - go for the 2003.
