Default Fuel Gauge 2007 Low Rider

Well my wife has put fuel in her 07 Low Rider many, many times, but Saturday fueling it for the first time this riding season she grabbed the wrong cap, and brute forced it. Now the gauge is totally fubar, it actually cracked the glass. No leakage as we cautiously rode on to our destination (20 minutes away). Anyone know what it going to take to repair the gauge? A new gauge I assume, but will it require the tank removed, is this something the dealer should repair. Any input would be appreciated.

No you wont have to remove the tank. Under the fuel gauge there is no liquid . I am guessing she twisted the wires off. With a twisting back and forth motion while pulling up the gauge should come right out. Then you can check the wires out. The gauge just sets down in a cup and the wires go down through a tube to down under the tank where they plug into the wire harness. If you look up under the tank on the gauge side you can see the wires comming out of the tube .If you watch here on the site you can pick up a used gauge. Most all the newer Dyna gauges will fit her bike.

The gauge should just pry up. It's just connected via pressure. The gauge pod is external to the fuel tank so you should have no worries with fuel leaks. The wire harness goes from the gauge to the main wire harness under the tank. You should not have to remove the tank but you may have to lift it to access the connector.

If it is not working, the wiring is probably broken either at the gauge or connector under the tank. Disconnect the connector for the fuel gage that is located just under the tank on the left side and pull the gauge out...Depending on the size of the connector, you might have to pull the contacts out of the connector housing to pull the wires through the tube. If the glass is broken, get on eBay and find a replacement gauge...one with the "do not remove" decal on it...

The stock gauge will pop out if you pull it, well mine does/did anyway. If it's broken and looks bad you can replace it, you can probably find a used take-off on ebay. Otherwise look through the P&A catalog for a designer gauge, or one of the many aftermarkets available.
