Default Camchest Upgrade- Feuling Kit or SE Plus Cams

Alright so I've gone backwards with my bikes, from an 07 96", to a 2002 88".

I'm looking to upgrade the cam tensioners. Would the SE Camchest Upgrade Kit plus a set of cams be sufficient or is everything in the Feuling Kit necessary (see links).

Thanks for the info.

When I did my 05 Bagger TC88 I got a kit from Herko over at HTT which was all OEM HD parts to convert to hydro tensioners and the newer style oil pump. Had to run Conversion cams (Andrews N suffix) but there were plenty available. This setup used the plain bearing outer cam support but it was also much cheaper than the SE kit that still uses the old style cams. Might be worth looking into.

This was a few years ago so not sure the same parts are still readily available.

Because I had the strongest crank of any Twin Cam ('99 to '02, as you do,) all I did back at 81,000 miles (Jan '11,) is install Andrews 26 gear drive cams with upgraded Torrington inner cam bearings on my 95" motor. No upgraded cam plate and still the original oil pump. Total $$, about $800.

The bike just shot past 150,000 miles earlier this spring and I still haven't found a reason to peek back into that cam chest!

Wow not bad! That's my plan, I'll probably keep this bike forever and just run it into the ground and put the mileage in the 100k's and beyond!

If you plan on keeping it a long time, do a complete S&S cam chest: bearings, lifters, oil pump, cam plate and gear drive cams. Bulletproof to the max. Shop wisely to get a good price. If you cam "up" now (585 cams) you will have a good bottom end for a hot 95" build later. Just got to figure out valve springs.

Yeah I've been debating on just cams now, or going all in on the S&S "Hot 95" Kit". Super expensive, and I wouldn't be install it myself so labor would kill.

Honestly just going S&S gear drive kit/cams/lifters and a new HD oil pump would be what 99.9% of early twin cam guys do.

It gets rid of the problematic tensioners and makes your great Timken style engine solid as a rock.

You don't need a camplate or conversion cams to get where you want to go.

That being said I have done the SE new style tensioner kit in a few early TC's, and it works great. But there will always be a chain rubbing against plastic tensioners so only time will tell.
