Roadglide fairing install

stereo
Jumping forward a little bit:
I did a lot of research on stereos for the RG. I read all through the RD audio forum and searched for hours online. Don't worry it was at work on government computers so I didn't go over on my data plan! I decided on the Clarion M505 Marine Digital Media Receiver for the head unit. I paired that with the Clarion Mobile Electronics XC1410 D-Class 4-Channel Amplifier running a pair of 6-1/2" Infinity 629I 225W Two-Way Speakers. I also got a set of 5.25" to 6.5" Inch Factory to Aftermarket Speaker Adapter Converter Trim Rings. These are free with purchase of speakers if you order through Crutchfield. I opted to pay the $15 for them because the cost difference between sites was more than $15. I am taking the fairing to a local stereo install place and having it Dynamat lined while it's apart. Something the touring guys highly recommend. If you want, Dynamat sells a fairing kit for the touring bikes that is pre-cut and fitted to the RG fairing. http://www.dynamat.com/introducing-t...t-fairing-kit/
All that being said, you can buy entire plug-and-play systems through several motorcycle sites that are specifically for motorcycles and the roadglide in particular. Just keep in mind that these will need to be modified to work on a Roadyna fairing. Harley sells the Boom Audio setup for the touring line http://www.harley-davidson.com/store...08-76000411--1. Rockford Fosgate has a "House Party" setup for the RG http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/produ...ls/rf300x4-rhp. JP Cycles has a dizzying array of audio products http://www.jpcycles.com/2009-harley-...nd-electronics.
Do some research and really think about what you are looking for specifically. For me it was decent audio, marine grade, bluetooth and sirius. I didn't want a massive system and since I will be making my own fairing wiring harness the factory interface was not an issue.
And if you don't want to deal with any of it or want to wait to add a stereo here's an option:

gauges
After a buddy gave me a set of gauges I started going about figuring out how to wire them up on a Roadyna. I ordered all the connectors and pins for the back of the gauges, the air temp sensor and connector and the oil pressure sending unit and connector. I know that all these gauges are not necessary and maybe even not worth taking the time to make operational. You can just add the bulbs and associated wiring so that they light up with ignition if you don't want to deal with making the gauges functional.
I will follow up on it after the whole thing is done but in the meantime the list for everything:
4× 72200-94A HD-72200-94A $5.69 $22.76 Gauge Input
11× 9937 HD-9937 $1.01 $11.11 Plugs
4× 72203-96 HD-72203-96 $4.57 $18.28 Gauge Lighting
8× 9839 HD-9839 $1.52 $12.16 Plugs
1× 73153-96BK HD-73153-96BK $1.52 $1.52
2× 73191-96 HD-73191-96 $0.50 $1.00
1× 74419-96A HD-74419-96A $14.36 $14.36 Air temp sensor
1× 74438-99A HD-74438-99A $28.12 $28.12 Oil press sensor
1× 72400-99 HD-72400-99 $3.55 $3.55
1× 72403-99 HD-72403-99 $0.65 $0.65
4× 72213-94 HD-72213-94 $0.55 $2.20

That fairing creates buffeting as does the batwing. It all depends on your height inseam and arm length.
I was getting it off the sides of the fairing not the windshield. So Sanchoz wings cured my issue
If you get buffeting. Buy the wings first before anything. Eliminate the side buffeting and then attack windshield height

Just got back from a week in San Diego to the rest of my parts. I started to mock stuff up and realized that the stereo needs an install kit so I bought the Scosche HD7000B 1996-Up Harley Davidson Stereo Install Kit from Amazon. It should be here this weekend. In the meantime I started wiring up the fairing.

wiring
So the first thing I would recommend is that you go to NAMZ and get the tools that you need. The Universal Crimp tool and a good set of wire stripers are a must. I also got flex sleeving and heat shrink.
I started wiring all the connectors from one end of the run. I left the wires extra long and will cut them to length as I terminate them into the other connector. All the yellow and black are the ground and positive for the lights and gauges.

I installed the Infinity speakers with the 5.25 to 6.5 adapter plates after I had the insides of both the inner and outer fairing dynamatted at a local audio shop. Installation was straight forward. The adapters screwed to the speaker cover and the speakers screwed to that. As to how the weight of the speakers will affect it over time.... Clearance looks good but it will be close.
The wiring is spooled in place.
I've started to finish the wiring with heat shrink and sleeving. I have a few more wires to fun and finish before I install the stereo, amp and siruis tuner.
