Default 2:1 w/cat, or duals w/o cat?

My '15 LR has a nice enough factory 2:1, but with a cat. If I can get the dealer to install a set of V&H straightshots (the service Mgr said if they install an aftermarket exhaust it wouldn't hurt my warranty - is the only reason I'd go there vs. my Indy) Anyway, I know 2:1's generally give better performance then 1:1's, but would 1:1's-no cat, be better then 2:1's-w/cat?

I also think I'd generally prefer the 1:1 as it gets the rear pipe away from my leg - I'm thinking summer stop and go traffic here in overpopulated NY.

The cat is gonna really hurt the performance. I have the same bike and just ordered the Python staggered duals with a hidden crossover. Having a link in the pipes will yield similar results as a 2-1. Python are made by vance and Hines and really close to the big shots which also have the crossover. But to strictly answer ur question I believe the 2-2 is still better than the slip on with the cat. Assuming the 2-2 at least steps to a larger muffler body behind the shields.

Personally, I prefer the sound/look of a 2-1 exhaust as well as the added bit of punch down low in the revs. I left the stock head pipes and collector but added a S.E. Nightstick with 5 disks and an open end cap. Nice at idle and steady speed with a nice bark while giving it the juice.

ANY pipe WITHOUT the cats will out perform your stock pipe with the cats. Catalytic Converters = HP Loss. They're souly for emissions.

I've allways been told you can have anyone you want install the exhaust without voiding your warranty.

cats should not even be remotely considered if your after performance. You could have the cat cut out by a muffler shop, it would be cheaper than a new set of pipes.
And as said anybody can put the pipe on for you, you could even install it yourself with no warranty issue.
As for heat we all deal with that! I don't feel heat from the pipes but rather from the air breather.
What do you mean by 1:1? like 1 pipe for each cylinder?

1 pipe per cylinder... Exactly. Also known as a 2:2, if written correctly.

Thanks

I removed the cat from my stock exhaust a couple weeks back, has a bit more sound, like removed a lot of restriction, but not so loud to annoy your neighbors. although weather still not warm, muffler is cooler after ride. also there is no need to cut open to remove cat, did mine in about 90 min with drill, is squeaky clean inside. am going to try it like this for a bit, while is not as efficient as an aftermarket header system, is a lot less $$.
