Default Race tuners void H-D warrenty?

This is the info I got from the dealership where I bought my last Dyna when I got ready to do the Stage 1 mod, anyone else heard this?

I went with the remap instead of the race tuner per their recommendation.

Seems to have set up fine and is running good, btw.

Are you referring to the S.creamin E.agle R.ace T.uner??? Man, if they say it's not covered under warranty, your shop's manager is even dumber than the one I USED to use...

I deal with stuff like this all the time in my line of work. There is something called the Magnuson-Moss act the protects the end user from this type of warranty denial. It basically says that A: The dealer would have to prove that it caused any "warranty" problem and B: Anything that improves the performance of said product, can't void the warranty. So do not let the dealer fool you into thinking this is true. As a matter of fact, if you ask them about this act they will probably have a change of heart.

I know that aftermarket tuners may void your warranty (I have a TFI) but you can remove them prior to engine service. On the otherhand, there are dealers in my area that will install aftermarket tuners on new bikes?!?.... The SERT is a HD product - it would be interesting to know the reasoning behind their comment.

It is curious as the dealership about 50 miles down the road is installing the race tuners with the Stage 1 mod.

It did save me a little money though ($150 vs $450).

That's not true. Aftermarket or OEM, neither can void the warranty unless it causes the problem...and even then it would be tough to get around. I had a SuperChip in my car and I had to take it to the dealer because an O2 sensor went bad. They told me when I picked it up that it was going to be $400.00 because the SuperChip was installed. I argued and argued and got no where. Once I mentioned the M-M act, the service guy went to his boss, came out and apologized and said it was taken care of. Dealers count on consumers not being educated, and sadly most are not. I have a lot of my customers that didn't even know about this law. That is why I printed it out, made copies and had them post them on their walls.

SmoothRider made a good point; challange their comment, or call the HD 800 number - the arrogance of some dealerships is amazing (not just HD). I'm sure there are many reputable dealers out there and I think I finally found one myself, but it's 80 miles away...

Your dealer probably can't tune a race tuner, so that's why he lied.

Call the MoCo and see if you can get a refund. Your bike will run a lot better with the tuner.
