I always start in neutral but if clutch lever is pulled in it should start in gear or neutral. I am sure you would have pulled the clutch in I'd hope? I would look into it as if you would kill your bike for some reason last thing you want to do is go back to neutral if on in incline or something.

I did this on my yamaha vmax after I just bought it. Forgot that the turn signals are on the left pod. Hit the right turn signal and the bike died and I couldnt get it to turn over so figured the battery was dead as its a 20 year old bike. Anyway, pushed it about half a mile to my friends house who then quickly pointed out the on off switch was pushed to off.

Sly, I wish I had been that smart. Obviously when I sit on the bike the first thing I do by habit is pull in the clutch before starting. In this case I walked into the garage and was standing next to the bike (Brake side) trying to start it up which I do every week or so when I can't ride for no other reason than to listen to the bike. You don't have to say it, strange I know!

Rob, thanks for sharing not only this experience, but your winter build as well. Enjoyed both of them. Got to say, ah crap with you then enjoyed the laugh. Hope you get to do some serious riding soon.

LOL! I'm beyond it now, I figure if I can't laugh at myself then I shouldn't be laughing at everyone else's foibles either.

At this point I'm going so stir crazy (your PMS) that that's all I've got.
