Default Trans pulley nut removal

This has been posted before but even after following all the advice I still cannot get my trans nut off. I've now broken two 1/2" breaker bars, electric and pneumatic impacts aren't budging it. I don't have anything I could use to cut it.

How much heat can I put on that nut before I melt the trans seal behind it or wreck the bearings just inside that nut? I'm guessing it's loaded up on locktite that I need to melt, but getting to 500 degrees scares me.

Drill a 3/16 (IIRC) hole in the flange of the nut, then split it with a chisel. It will come off very easy.

Of course, replace with new nut.

One of the tricks to the impact I read here is you have to sit on it for a bit to break it loose. The usual repeated 10-15 sec burst won't cut it but if you stay on it and pound it for about a minute it finally does come loose.

Yep, sometimes you have to beat the snot out of them, heat and beat, heat and beat.

Same for me! I took about 45 seconds pounding on it continuously with a cordless impact wrench after several days of dinking around with multiple impact wrenches, breaker bars, and heat. In retrospect drilling and splitting the nut might have been a better way to go.

Without knowing the year of the bike, no one can tell you which way to turn it to loosen...
