Thats a beautiful showroom condition 9yr old bike--I'd leave it. That's not what you asked so I'd go chrome bars with chrome t-header if it has to get changed.
I've gone through 4-5 changes since I bought my Street Bob in '07, but your bike looks kinda special as it sits.

Yes, you can have too much chrome. You're the guy who buys every bit of chrome he can for his truck at autozone that attaches with double sided tape aren't you?

I think the band painted black would be a nice way to cut down the cover's stand outish look in all chrome and break it up a little. Might try it first, probably cheaper than a new cover!

IMO, the bars are an extension of the forks. So if you do black bars, they'll stand out. If this is the Look your going for, go for it.

Whewy, I was starring at your bike trying to come up with options and then saw you even had chrome on your grips , just kidding

Great looking bike but here's some options:

If you black the handlebars and controls black the dash, levers, mirrors too.

Get gloss black sliders
Get a RWD front fender in gloss black
Gloss black PC your wheels

Gloss black side covers

Gloss black fender struts

Good, black rear shocks

Or it's great as is or with any changes!

Lots of options with your bike

I wouldn't worry about what other people think your bike should look like. Whatever suits ya better, go with it. I like both on different styles of bikes myself.

Not to poke too much BUT, I think that's funny that you're comparing THEE MOST popular scheme since the beginning of bikes to a new fad that's only been hip for the last few years and saying it's "getting played out".

Chrome was so 90's... and so 80's... and so 70's... etc etc. That doesn't constitute "being played out" or does chrome have to make another solid 5 decade run before it's "yesteryear's" fad? Just sayin... lol.

If you like to clean and polish your bike go the chrome route, if you like to do more riding then polishing. Go the black route. I kinda have a balance of both, but more black with some chrome accent. I agree with above, how is black played out?
