I just bought the chrome voltage regulator cover for my 05 Dyna Custom

Fits '04-'05 FXDL and FXDWG models.

Dealer told me it will fit on my custom but with a deep impact of the front
forks it would hit the fender. With less rake then the low rider and wide glide
it could hit.

It adds about a 1/16th of an inch to the regulator. I'm taking the chance.

Has anyone had a problem.

Any ideas if this is a bad idea?

 

The dealer is probably right. Maybe you could get about four guys to push your forks down all the way and see how much clearance you have, or, get the exact angle of the forks then measure the max fork travel. Then apply those figures to the edge of your fender and see how much clearance you have.

 

Nothing to do with your spacing problem, but I've been told that the chrome covers may cause the regulator to overheat resulting in premature failure. At the risk of sounding like Skip, sometimes chrome is bad.

 

I agree with geezer. Chrome is overrated. Not only that, chromium is polluting our streams and rivers from industrial dumping. When you add chrome to your bike you also add it to your kids drinking water.
