Off to a great weekend so far!!! I put some miles on the bike today and here are my thoughts on the 18 inch wheel swap so far. The tire and wheel combination drops the front end about half an inch from stock, this quickens the steering a bit more than the way the bike was set up.
Steering is more neutral in response and is precise as it was with the narrower Dunlop's, which I did not expect with the wider Avon's. Its easier to tighten the line in a turn, going wider mid-turn has a lot less drama as the tires stick so well that the transition from wider to back on line feels a lot more composed,
I don't think I lost any cornering clearance with the shorter front tire due to the new tires wider radius. So to sum it up it's easier to ride the bike quickly with more confidence that it will go where you want it to.
Put on a S&S Teardrop Air Cleaner Kit and V&H FP3 on my 07 FXD. Loving it so far, but need to have a few more AutoTune Sessions with the FP3. Next will be to upgrade the suspension from stock.
By God, you're D.B. Cooper, I've just cracked this case!
Your age progression avatar or whatever the pic of you in the top left and your synonym or whatever it's called of a name "Dan O Coyote"..."D. B. Cooper", oh yeah!
Been a big fan of yours D.B., should have known you were a Dyna guy all this time! Rock on DB
Today I'll put duct tape or some other kind of tape on the chrome heat shields so I don't scratch the **** out of them while installing them - at least the front shield around the footpeg and rear brake lever area. The stainless steel clamps arrived yesterday. I have to box up the straight shots that sold on Ebay. I may feel like installing the heat shields after that.
