Default Let it sit

Harley says 160$ for the correct fittings?
2nd time this has happened and Harley has ordered 2 completely different bolts
Was changing back tire when the upper shock bolt snapped off inside the bike. Same thing happened a month ago to the other side when bleeding front brakes. Kind of weird I'm wondering if I have the right bolt because it's a 2009 dyna superglide on a 2006 dyna superglide frame. Anyone know what bolt would work to keep shocks on the bike. Think if I softened shocks it would help anything?

Softening the shocks might lessen the stress on the mounts. But enough, I don't know. Best to fix current issue regarding thread fitment.

That's a nice "in-between" look. I like it. How hard was it to disassemble the shock?

Might make worse if it causes the rear suspension to bottom out.

Does the stud thread into the frame or pass thru to a nut? The thru-hole (?) in the frame looks enormous compared to the fastener. Is there much slop prior to torque? If so, you might benefit from a steel bushing to take up the slop and move the load closer to shear. Proper torque is also going to be critical.

I took the shock off but did not disassemble it. I cleaned it a few times with greased lightning degreaser and a parts brush and hot water rinse, masked off the chrome ends, scuffed it with some green scotchbrite and paint thinner then painted.

Gotcha! I considered doing that same thing but was concerned about getting paint on the shaft and also didn't want to eff up the shock by taking it apart...so I left it alone...and then promptly totalled the bike. LOL!

While I'm here...

I got the front end, seat, exhaust, and side covers off.

Ordered a new Bosch variable speed angle grinder since my old single speed Makita finally crapped out (one too many drops cracked the transfer case).

Picked up all the steel I need for my tank shave and relocate. (11, 12, & 20ga cold rolled)

Now I'm drinking a cold PBR and trying to talk myself out of buying a TIG welder. (my MIG welder SUCKS at anything thinner than about 16ga)

Go for it - entire new world opens up - 220 V if you have an outlet / service.. otherwise a good 110

===========

What I did

Ended up w/ two saddleman seats - one mostly neoprene - conformable as hell - but gay

Runnin a leather one (same model) now - it also comfortable - but looks like an old man seat

Anyway - dropped the neoprene one off to get it redone

Leather w / diamond pattern..., outlined in a blue..., w/ a spade on the cantle

Be about a month.., they're back logged

=========

Weather's finally starting to heat up - bout time for oil temp testing
