You've nailed it in one. I'm doing 1000km a week on my GSA but it lacks the soul of the harley.

Having both makes sense.

Any Big Twin Harley should get the same basic MPG as the GSA, so you aren't saving any money that way. You want a Harley, Dyna, Softail, or Touring, go get one. As for me, I commute on a Kawi Ninja 650R, because I park in a public lot, in a seedy part of town. Not parking my Ultra there. The RT sometimes, but not a Harley.

A GSA and a Harley sounds like a good garage combo... tp

FWIW, GSA's are too tall for comfort at my 5'10" height. Shoot, get rid of the GSA, and get a Harley and a KLR 650, and have both on and off road enjoyment and reliability. I will get another KLR some day. tp

So far I have the preload adjuster wound down about half way (5-1/2) turns but feel it probably needs a bit more.

Am toying with the idea of machining up a longer spacer so I can get the ride I am happy with and the adjuster in the centre position, allowing me to then go up or down a bit as needed.
There is only 20mm (just over 3/4") of adjustment.

Certainly feels more responsive.
Maybe still a bit too soft but in saying that it did feel nice and smooth and was good through sweepers and s bends a very spirited pace.

Edit, just pulled the adjuster off, pulled spring out, measured how much the spring can compress before it binds so I could work out the length for a longer spacer.
Will try to get one made tomorrow at work and try it again on the weekend.
Got plenty of data now, was going to do all this measuring before but got all keen and just installed. Did grab a few pics along the way if anyone is interested in seeing them....

i think your new shifter is not all the way on the shaft i installed a new one last year took it for a ride and it didn't feel right after checking i had to stick a bar behind primary to hold the shaft all the way out and it went all the way on the shifter should be flush with the shaft

I appreciate the concern but the shifter is good to go. It's a little modified from stock. Staring at the picture may drive someone with OCD crazy -LoL!

Mounted the 90/90-21 Pirelli Night Dragon, pulled the forks apart and drained the fork oil; I'm going to experiment with some different lengths of preload spacers and fluid levels with the heavy springs. Fork oil was changed last summer but, meh, 15wt is cheap, even for those thirsty 49mm forks
