Big depressing day for me. I'm experienced with doing most of my mechanical work but my starter system issue has stumped me. After a period of 5 months of non use and a failure in my trickle charger I was forced to recharge my battery. After 36 hours on a 2 amp charger battery read over 13.5 volts. All my starter did was a loud click. I check and cleaned all grounds. I also bye past the ground wire and ran a jumper from battery ground to engine directly, no help. Checked voltage at main starter wire plus the small starter circuit wire had full battery voltage when activated. I even tried jumping with a fully charged marine battery all I got was a loader click. I removed plugs and starter did turn over engine , puzzling to me?
My next step was to remove battery & starter motor. I stopped at a auto supply store to load test the battery to rule that out, it checked out good. So I bite the bullet and purchased an new starter motor only to find it does the same thing.....HELP any ideas

Never Mind. You already tried a new starter.

I hate electrical issues! Out of curiosity, if you have a meter on the battery terminals while someone hits the starter, what happens to the voltage? Some meters can record the hi and low voltages during a read, which helps. I'd like to know how low your battery voltage drops when it's clicking.

I had to dig into my emergency funds to buy a new computer. It got fried during a brownout. I''ll have to build the emergency fund back up before I spend any more money on the bike. Oh well, gives me time to catch up on some things on the Dyna and the ZRX.

Installed a new valve cap on the front wheel. It changed the whole bike - lol.

You should start your own thread so your answers don't get lost in here.

Did the new starter include a new solenoid? If not, that could be your problem. Otherwise, if the starter is good and getting the correct voltage, then it would seem there's too much friction in the engine or trans. (You tried in neutral, right? How about with the clutch disengaged?)
