Went out to the garage to ride the FLD to work. Damn heat, did in my battery in; Ruuuump-click-click-click.... (Rode the Ninja instead). It's on the charger over night. Hope it retains the charge. If it doesn't, anyone found good but less expensive batteries than OEM or the Batteries Plus ones? Both have worked for me in the past, but always open to new n better...Thanks in advance. tomp dd50

I have a Duracell in my Dyna. It's been a great battery. I will replace it with the same. I have an Interstate battery in the Kaw. Its also been a good battery.

Edit: Today I'm just thinking about how I want to start disassembly of the handlebars. I think I'll start by taking off the front brake master cylinder and brake line. For me, this is going to be a fun project - more inline with my mechanical abilities. IE: easy stuff

Hey, just curious here, but if you don't mind, how old are you? I'm 68, and been semi retired for over four years now. I do get into your work/posts, so just been curious about how long you have circled the sun... tomp dd50

No problem, I don't mind. I turned 49 on May 11. I was born in 1969. I'm also "retired" due to health issues since February 2017. Hopefully one day I can get back to work! I hope I make it to 68! 58 even!

FWIW, I will pray for you. When in my 20's, I believed I would NEVER live to see 30, and didn't care. Now at over twice that age, I've realized, unless one lives a stupid life, and God forbid, an uncontrolled condition doesn't afflict, years will layer upon years, until old age has silently crept in and taken over, which is what has begun with me.
I hope you see 58, 68, 78, 88..., until you are tired of having birthdays. tomp dd50

Thank you brother!

I was able to find the original front brake line but it is too corroded to re-use. I may buy an OEM line or Magnum line. I'll see how it goes.

Edit: Just heard back from boardtrackerharley and a new OEM front brake line will be $75, so that's the route I am going.

Damn. I already ordered it. But thanks!

Today: I ordered a new front brake line and a battery tender.

I was thinking about ordering new handlebars so they will be gleaming new chrome but that's just me being ****. There's nothing wrong with the original ape hangers I have, no scratches or anything other than where the controls will cover up. They just don't look like shiny new gleaming chrome. I am not going to internally wire them so it will be an easy swap if I ever wanted to.

I'll wait until I figure out most or all of the fiddly bits I need so they can be ordered in a single order from boardtracker.

I'll be keeping track of how much this "conversion" costs. I'll tally it up at the end.

Today I inspected my cam chain tensioner shoes (they still look brand new at 25,000 miles), replaced spark plugs, and re-packed my exhaust baffles with fiberglass cloth. I also broke one of the clamp brackets off of my rear exhaust heat shield and ruined an expensive pair of tennis shoes.

The charger seemed to have worked on my battery last night. Took the FLD out for a ride, but with a Heat Index of 110*, and in full gear, I was back home in the AC in two hours. Saw only four bikes when out, and they were heading to one of their homes ( a dead end street, so that's what I figured ) Really like the Dyna,, but sure wish I could ridebit in comfort, some day soon. tp dd50
