Default 07 Dyna Street Bob project

I've owned this SB for a while. I liked the denim look with lots of black and a few chrome accents, but now I'm tired of it. Most of my changes will be cosmetic for now. One of my goals is to do this on a budget, because it's fun to see how much I can do myself or save by finding used parts.

I plan on painting, changing bars, mirrors, grips, 7" headlight, 1/4 fairing, exhaust and lowering the bike a bit. I'm after a "street bob meets drag bike" look. I used to drag race KZ's. After the cosmetic work I'll focus on a some bolt on power and tuning.

Here is what I'm starting with...

I was undecided on the paint color. I'm a no thrills kinda guy so I want to keep the paint simple. I'm using rustoleum brushed on out of my garage. So unless I wanted to mix colors, I was limited to their base colors. Bright red it is. I prepped and painted the front fender first to make sure it's what I wanted. I almost changed my mind several times, but I don't see too many bright *ss red Harley around. Sticking with the red. If you don't know anything about the $50 rustoleum paint job, google it. I've gotten pretty good at it. Noone believes me when I tell them it's rustoleum painted with a brush.

Back fender prep. It had a few small dings in it, which were not noticable with the flat black. I filled them with filler, primed, sanded, used glazing putty on the small scratches, primed again. Almost ready for paint. (a clean surface is key!)

Here is the front fender thats already on the bike. Does is shine? YES. Orange peel? NOPE. A lot of sanding involved. The lighting is not good in this pic, but you can see the reflection of my dining room lights. The lighting makes it look lighter than what it is. It's fire engine red.

I got the first coat on the back fender tonight. The first coat is always ugly and I put it on a bit thick when I first started. I'll put on another coat tomorrow and then sand any dust, runs, orange peal, etc. Paint, sand repeat.

Got the second coat on this morning. Went on better than the first coat. I'll sand tonight with 600.
