Funny. Mine is doing the same. Did a leak down test and it was around 7* on both so that's good but both the front an rear have an oil leak. Not looking forward to changing out the head gaskets. Don't want to disterb the base gaskets. Strange.

 

Yea I'm a little weary of disturbing the base gaskets too, I'll do one at a time and make sure to torque the head back down before rolling the motor over. I'm wondering if I roll the cam to the base circle if I can leave the pushrods adjusted as they are now or if I should collapse them and re adjust again.

It's hard to see in the picture but there's a little bit of oil on the cooling fins under the head



Is it normal to have oil in the intake with external breathers?? And it looks like my filter is letting a little bit through

 

Yes. You still have oil that comes down the intake valve stem. Yes. You should re adjust the pushrods.

 

Ok new gasket is in, I'm going to do the front head too since everything is off, I'm using a different torque method this time so I might as well fix the front one.

Could that be cause of the head gasket leak? Take a pic of the other piston once you do the other side.

 

Could you identify anything wrong with the gasket, or could there be a cylinder/cylinder head surface issue?

 

Yea it looks like it may be from the leaking gasket. You can see on the piston it looks like it was coming in from the lower left stud. The only thing I can see on the gasket is the viton has rubbed off in a few spots. I doubt it has anything to do with the mating surfaces, I think I leaned on it a little too hard before the motor had warmed all the way up. My fault. I'll try and get the front gasket done tomorrow and I'll take a picture of that piston and compare the two. I need to get the front rocker box gaskets and breather orings for both heads

 

Wasn't a cylinder or a head damaged in shipping and you thought it was just the powdercoat that was cracked? Hopefully it's just the gasket and not anything more than that.

 

There should not be oil coming down the valve stem, that's what valve seals are for, if they're good. No reason to readjust pushrods, just disassemble and assemble on base circle like you would with solid pushrods.
