I've been thinking about painting my stock exhaust.

I'm one of those weirdos who's perfectly happy with the look,sound and power of the factory setup. The '07's are a lot louderthan before, I think. I may change it someday, but not any time soon.

Anyway, lately, I've noticed some bikes with exhausts that are part chrome, part black - so I did a photochop of my bike with just the heatshields painted black, to see what it might look like. (these shots were taken before I put the tach on)

So, what do y'all think?

 

well here is what it will kinda look like....

these are the SEII pipes that where already black...but i spayed them with the harley high temp black to match the shields

shields where chrome i scuffed them up with a 3m pad and then sprayed them with bbg black
then i sprayed them with the Harley high temp textured black

they seem to be holding up real well..only problem i have is that they have a weird smell once they get good and hot...

 

if you are happy do what you want.they look cool.

I like the look of all black on Bigmo's bike.

Good news is - even if you get them to a point you hate em, easy and cheap to go back. Should be plenty of stock setups available.

 

Yeah, I'm not afraid of "ruining" the stock stuff... it's easy and cheap to replace.

As for painting them, I've got a guy who'll sandblast the chrome off for $30 bucks. I'm going to use PJ1 Fast Black hi-temp exhaust paint.

It was a little moreexpensive, but what the hell... it will be better than plain old BBQ paint. Might as well do it right the first time.

Also, the PJ1 paint has a ceramic ingredient. It's not a true ceramic coating, but it's better than plain paint.

I think I'm going to just do the heatshields first. If I decide I don't like it, I can always do the mufflers later...

Go Ahead and Paint the Mufflers also ... If ya dont like them I have plenty of new take Offs.. I'll send ya a pair for the shipping. Shouldnt be much more than 20.00 bucks or so.. Trotter

 

I say paint the whole setup. I dont care for the half and half look...
