Default Dyna Rear Pulley Bolts

Has anyone had trouble with the rear pulley bolt, I installed the HD chrome one at 8000 miles and now at 31000 miles all the bolts broke at the same time!

Yes there is a huge thread on this somewhere, you could use the "Search" feature at the top of the page and find it. I just replaced my rear pulley and went with aftermarket(Diamond Engineering) ones. Definitely have to be careful when replacing those bolts, need to only use new bolts, clean out the hub threads, use Red Loctite 262 if no threadlocker, and torque properly per your HD Service Manual - refer to HD Service Bullitin M-1219 if your SM came out before 2009. Even doing all this right, you need to check them periodically to see if they are losing their torque.

Oh yeah, welcome to the HD Forums!

Those bolts won't break overnight, they usually start coming loose and got worse. Do what HD pilot mentioned, I never had problem rechecking them from time to time.

Thanks for the welcome, the bike was on the lift the night before and the bolts where checked when they where installed red loctite was used, I had to drill out all five broken bolts and they did not come out easy. Just has a note HD states they are grade 8 bolts but I have never drilled through a grade 8 bolt so easy the drill went through them like butter.

I may be wrong but those don't look like the HD bolts to me. They look like SS.

Nah...stainless would be a b*&tch to drill out. And contrary to what was said...dont use RED locktite if you have an aluminum hub...you will damage threads. Use blue on alloy wheels.

That size are those bolts? I'd like to order a set of ARP bolts before I powdercoat.
