Sissy bar decision help...
#12
Got the new bar last in last night...now just need to find a day to install it.
any pointers to those who have either taken the stock sissy bar off or installed a new one?
is it a total tear down of the rear end to get the old one off? i cant find a lot of info on it except this thread.

Number one why are you asking all us dumb asses what we think. Do what you want. But if you want my opinion I think it depends on what all else you are planning for the bike. The stock bike you showed can go many different directions once you start changing things. Myself, I wouldn't put a sissy bar on at all. But that's just me. --Reaper

I went with the 16" black Bowman bar also. They do super nice work..fit finish, etc was as good or better than factory.
I did take off the back shocks to drop the back wheel down do I could get under there and work. I was replacing the shocks anyway.
I removed the whole back fender. The bar is attached to it with plastic push in rivets, so it would be a pain and a more than likely chance to scratch the hell out of stuff trying to do it with the fender on.
It was about a 2 hour job and the only problem i had was trying to get the blinkers "popped" into place on the struts.
