Default SERT; USB or serial?

Does the SERT come with USB or serial cable? I mean the cable kit, can you buy it with USB cable? None of the newest laptops have serial port anymore (or at least some of those haven't). Its near to expensive to buy a new "old" laptop also ;-)

the newer SERTs don't come with any cables. You have to purchase a cable from HD to go between the SERT interface box and the bike. Plus you have to buy a cable to go from the interface box to your computer.
The interface box takes a serial cable at the interface box end. you can buy a serial-USB converter, or a cable with serial at one end and USB at the other. Check Radio shack and other computer places. pretty common cable.

Slightly off topic, but I have two questions:

1. What does "SERT" stand for?

2. Can you getfuel maps for specific pipes, like a Power Commander?

Screaming Eagle Race Tuner. It only comes with canned maps for HD add-ons such as a SE AC, SE IIs, HD cam, etc. However, you can a map that is close to what you have, and then adjust it. I used a canned map on my WG, but dyno'd/adjusted the canned map i used on my UC.

Thanks. Is it a box that you mount to the bike, like the Power Commander or V&H Fuel Pak, or does it download directly into the existing ECM?

Also, I read, somewhere, that once you load a map, you're stuck with it. Is that true?

nope, the SERT consists of a CD (with the instructions, programs, and canned maps), plus an interface box that "marries" itself electronically to your specific ECU. the interface box is just used to link the laptop to the bike, and once the download is done, you put it away. nothing is added to the bike, you're just re-programming the ECU on the bike. You can download a map anytime you want. you can take a canned map, modify it, and then install it.
