I spray my windshield down with WD40, to remove the crusty bug guts. Let it sit overnight. Softens them up, and they come off a lot easier. I know there are products specifically made for this, but I don't always have them handy in the garage. I always have about 3 cans of WD40 on the go.

I spray fasteners on my bike with WD40. Don't think I'd ever apply it to paint or plastic, however.

I would think WD40 would be very bad for paint
