Default California Duster

3Dog,
Will using a California Duster possibly hurt my paint? I've seen it suggested that it might but nobody has ever answered that it does or doesn't

You will find pros and cons from a variety of people. As **** as I am, I do find myself grabbing it before a ride. Remember its for getting the dust off, period.
Dusters:
Let sit on newspaper a day before first time use.
Keep covered when not in use.
The fibers are doing the work, so keep the weight off.
Short strokes and shake. (On my RK I probably shake it out 10 times)

I have heard that the 'dirtier' a California duster gets, the better it cleans too... Don't know that I believe that, but has anyone else heard of that?

Thats kinda the wrong way its being said. The duster have perafins (?) in it and they could be removed if you wash. Thats why it is so important to shke alot and only use on dry surfaces.

Dusters work great! I use it on my black car all the time. You have to make sure that you use it only to DUST. Dont use it if the bike needs to be washed. Used and stored properly with wont hurt the paint in any way. New ones tend to leave light grease marks until they have been broken in and used some.

I use a duster on my bike and I haven't seen any signs of damage.

I go to a huge classic car show from time to time and the carowners use dustersso there must be something to it.[]

I've used them for many years on my black bike and pickup with no scratches. But, like others have said, they are only for dust, not dirt. Never press hard, just lightly run it over the paint. They have parafin wax on them to pick up the dust. On my bike I usually use a detailer spray after the dusting.
