Default Any Tips for Care and Cleaning Laces???

I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips on how to keep laces clean (between washings) and if there are any recommendations for products and/or gadgetsthat work well for cleaning laces. (minimize the effort)

I just put 80-spoke laces on my bike. They look great but I'm dreading having to clean them....

Any tips or traps you can offer up would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I take my laces out and soak them in a glass of water and chlorine. Then rinse really well.

I use and like Boston Soap Works wheel cleaner, called Amber Bright, www.perewitzprecision.com/index.cfm. It is a spray-on, let sit, and then hose off. Takes about 2 minutes total per wheel. If needed, I use a spoke brush (readily available) to give the spoke a light brush when the cleaner is on them. I clean the wheels every two to three days, and that way, they stay bright. If needed for especially dulled spokes, Luster Lace works great but is much slower (one spoke at a time). Brake dust is the real villian to spokes.

Best way I've found is that once the spoke are clean, keep them that way with regular cleanings.

Oops, almost forgot. Ask the manufacturer of your new wheels what they recommend. I've found that they are the single, best source for information.

Thanks. Man, that sounds painstaking. Sounds like a goodmethod if you have really dirty laces. I think I'm just going to have to regularly clean them to maintain the current state. Thanks again, I really appreciate it.

Thanksfor the headsup Seth!

I often use Meguire products and eventually may have stubbled across the dastardly "red ball". Thanks to you, a catastrophe has been avoided. Appreciate the tip brother!

Thanks Black Fly!

I will definately take your advice....I wash my scoot regularly. I will make sure I spend the extra time keeping the laces clean between washings. I'm going to check out "Amber Bright" as well. Thanks again buddy.
