WD40 on Wrinkle Black Engine ???
I've used WD40 on the wrinkle black finish of my Jeep Wrangler's bumpers for years with great success.
Finally tried it on the wrinkle black finish of my Nightrains'srear fender supports, oil tank etc... and it looks great, got caught in the rain Sunday and water beaded on the wrinkle paint surfaces.I spray it on one of those inch wide disposable foam paint brushes-(can be used over and over)apply it evenly then wipe off any excess with a cloth.
Here's the big question: What would happen if I used WD40 on my black engine ? Would the heat make that much difference if it's already working so well on non-engine parts ?
Other than maybe a bit of a smell why not use WD40 ?
I've been using S100 Engine Brightener and I don't think it's effective.
I'll probably try some Pig Spit to see what I think, but why not WD40 ?

S100 makes a product specifically for the engine (S100 Motorcycle Engine Brightener). It's like Armor All, except it handles high heat. It won't burst into flames like WD-40!

When I was racing motocross, I used to spray the exhuasts on my dirtbikes with WD40 to keep them from rusting after I washed them after raceday. Once theexhaust heated up,it would start smoking for a bit asit burned off the WD40. Never harmed anything though. I'm sure you would probably get the same effect if you applied it to your motor. I would probably stick to something made specifically for motors, though, to withstand the heat.

your bike is not going to burst into flames. Any modern day motocrosser gets WAY hotter then these Hds. Every factory team or top mechanic sprays the entire bike down minus the seat to stop mud from sticking and to ease on clean up and not one time after thousands upon thousands of being applied has it ever burst into flanmes...
i use WD40 on EVERYTHING. Ill detail my truck and WD the under carriage.....

I don't think it would burst into flames either. The worst that would happen, I think, is a little smoke for a few seconds until the WD40 burned off. As vegashd said, a lot of motocrossers sprayed their bikes with WD40 to keep the mud from sticking. I would do the same as well. Especially under the fenders, inside the radiator covers, and under the skid plate. However, most of the bike is plastic on a motocrosser, so I wouldn't necessarily recommend this on your Harley. Bottom line, though, is that your bike isn't going to burst into flames by spraying WD40 on it. Unless of course you've installed a kit to shoot flames out of your exhaust and your bike is covered in WD40.

I had owned an 04 Softail Night Train a couple of years back and the BEST stuff for cleaning/restoring the luster of all the wrinkle black parts and the black luster on the powder coated black engine was Black Out from clean cycle..

you just apply it with a "sponge on a stick" and do not have to wipe it off.. works great! a little pricy but one bottle lasted for at least a year..
