I replaced the Roadmax 6 Spd RSD transmission on my 05 American Ironhorse. The new transmission has a problem with 3rd gear ONLY. It randomly skips, lurches, grabs, slips, but only in 3rd gear. All other gears are fine. I have adjusted the clutch numerous times, and other then the 3rd gear problem seems to be perfect. The problem is random and is a quick grab/jump and then its fine. Any ideas? Pawl adjustment? Shift forks?

Sounds deeper than that. With it "grabbing" once and a while it could get serious and lock up. Drain the tranny and run a magnet through the oil and see what you get. Then take the top cover off, flush it ou with a little kerosene/diesel fuel and give it a good visual inspection. You should be able to spot any chipped/broken teeth on the gears, then you can go from there. Be sure to use a good light when looking in there. Then while you are in there you can adjust the pawl.
