It was explained to me that what you are getting is free advertising on the show, the commercials run about 2 mil so if they build a bike you get 1 or 2 episodes with your name on it site visits, and showing the bike for the money, well worth the time if you can afford the 250k.
E.g. Exile cycles make a trike (feature on Biker buildoff) that has much more complicated engineering than anything out of OCC and they sell it for $70k! Plus a customer has one for sale on their site for $30k!
Be interesting to see where OCC is in a few years.

Are, now that makes perfect sense. I was shocked when I saw OCC expand into that massive new "World HQ". Just didnt make any sense a custom bike builder could rake in that much dough. A volume custom builder just doesnt make sense. But, if they are riding off the back of Discovery chanel and making $100k+ for free on each bike, that means they must be pulling in maybe $2million in pure profit before any other expenses or bike sales.

Paul Sr. received a lot of stuff for either free or in exchange for a bike. If you see the name on the equipment then it was either free or dirt cheap. Anything that they had to pay for either has the logo blacked out or an occ sticker on it. Cuttler hammer gave them hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of electrical equipment for a custom bike that ended up being a "greenie" with a few custom parts tacked on. They weren't very happy about that, I believe they thought that their build was supposed to make the show.
Last Friday I went down there with a friend that was in town and wanted to see it. We arrived around 6:00PM and there were still quite a lot of cars in the lot, most from out of town. They were leaving with armloads of souvieners too.

If they don't find something new to appeal to the public, they are toast. I agree that the bikes are too expensive, too unreliable, too cookie cutter, and too unrealistic for the common biker. I knew a guy here in Atlanta named Otis Nixon. He used to play center field for the Atlanta Braves, maybe you remember him. Anyway, he had the idea to open a home theater business. Initially all of his sports friends and celebs bought his theater systems. His bottom line systems cost 30 to 50K. For a year or two he did pretty well, because ballers like to compete with each other. He called the common guy a "little fish" and was not interested in his business. He sent them to best buy and circuit city. When the ballers went away, he was scrambling for a customer base. Then he was then interested in the little fish. In the end he was competing with radio shack in the mall and eventually went out of business. Does this sound similar to what OCC is doing? If the objective is to make a lot of money in a hurry, they should be taking the money and running now. Otherwise, they are going to be selling scooters at Pep Boys.
Just food for thought.
