S&S pan kick starting problem

S&S pan kick starting problem
Hi
I have just built a bobber, it has:
S&S p-series panhead, with superstock ignition 93 cu in
8.2:1 compression ratio.
Primary belt 1.5 inch
Kick only
Harley 4 speed transmission
S&S super E carb
I cant start it.
I have checked the carb settings
The timing is good
A few times I have managed to start it, but after about 200 kicks.
Then I rode it 16 miles & the oil temp was 250 degrees (with 20-50 syn oil)
it runs good though
My questions:
Is this engine too big for kickstarting?
Should I send it back to S&S?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanx in advance

I still kick over a 96ci S&S It's got the G carb . If you are sure the timing is right ( electronic ign ? Mallory distrib or ? ) Starting cold turn on the gas pull the enrichment lever up crank the throttle 3 times to get the accelerator pump to shoot the gas to the back of the carb Now try kicking might take 4 or 5 kicks Also make sure your clutches aren't slipping ( good compression ) When hot kick the bike thru (ign off ) pull enrichment lever up turn throttle 1/4 turn and kick At least this sequence works for me Good luck

dr ransom,
That engine should WANT to run. You must either have a tuning issue, or like sqdealgeorge said, a starting sequence to work out, perhaps a weak spark, or a fuel delivery problem.
I have had my engine start a couple of times by just pushing down on the kicker (there was NO resistance) and it fired up. I run a S&S 96" Evo with 10:1 compression. Most times, it does require a good kick.
Mine is not kicker only and I don't even have the kick lever on it right now (boring story) but you will get it worked out and it'll treat you right...unless it's the engine from hell...
