Keep the O-Ring.....vibrations are not from the chain design......If you have proper tension on the chain, and it's still "flailing around" when you are riding, then perhaps you need the tensioner. The chain needs to be replaced only when it's stretched beyond the adjustment area, or the kinks start sticking together.
Torque down your motor mounts, vibrations generally come from there. if the surfaces of the motor mounts were left painted when they installed the motor, etc. That paint will break loose over time, causing a loose/vibration problem.

How do you define "stretch" ? Do you mean the amout of slack measurable when lifting the chain?
I just broke the chain on my rigid after just 2,800 miles and I'm guessing it was from too much slack in the chain because it slapped tight a couple of times at a crawling speed with a loud "clunk" just before it broke.
I'm guessing there is a difference in tention settings from a hartail vs. a suspended rear due to the fact the distance between sprockets never changes, but I've not found any specks on the subject.
I'm now running the chain much tighter than before to see what difference it makes.
I've seen a lot of hardtails and I've never noticed a tentioner on one but I supose it couldn't hurt anything?
