Default Insuring a Classic

Hey guys, I'm picking up my 65 Glide next Saturday (been in the family for 35+years), and need to insure the bike before I start riding. I called my local agent, and he told me I should go with a company that specializes in classic/antiques since he (the local) would only insure for the depreciated value, not the appreciated value of the bike. He referred me to and I tried www.hagerty.com but they would not insure the bike since I do not have another bike as my primary rider. Doesn't make much sense to me. I plan to ride the bike some, but my main mode of transportation will be my cage. Any way, how have you insured your classics, and who did you go with?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Never insured a classic before but I would call around to other insurance companies and see if they all follow the same guidelines.

Good advice. I found another company that will insure the bike for the replacement value (22k), for $110/year. I had to go with my local company for Liability insurance for $120/year. So...all in all, my bike is fully insured for $220/year with a $500 deductible up to $22k.

Good deal. Make sure you take pictures of the bike. Take some of all sides and keep anything else that will help prove value.

When my auto insurance company changed their policy on insuring bikes I went with progressive. You can insure it for an agreed value. After a horrific accident on my 72FLH I got as much coverage as I could afford. Don't skimp on uninsurred/under insured motorist coverage.

Do you think I'm in the right ball park insuring the bike for $22K? It's completely unmolested with the exception of the exhaust, chain, tires, left rear view mirror, and the seat had to be reupholstered. Engine's never been rebuilt as the bike only has 4,300 miles on it. Original paint and all of the good stuff. I'm thinking $22k was enough, but I would love to hear from you guys.
