My father-in-law gave me a 1929 Harley-Davidson JD engine and I would love to rebuild it into a rideable bike. Unfortunately I have no idea where to begin.

Any help would be appreciated.

Nice score. Check out http://www.caimag.com/forum/ There are a lot of members with alot of knowledge and contacts. They've got a form for pre 36 bikes. Also check out www.antiquemotorcycle.org It is the classic antique motorcycle club. There's a list of swap meet dates and location. To sell at there swap meets your parts have to be a minimum of 35 yrs old.
