Default Finding the original color

How do you find the actualcolor or code that a bike came out of the factory with? Is there a certain place that would hold that info. I called Harley but didn't get an answer

Default RE: Finding the original color

Don't know if they still do, but these guys http://www.antiquecyclesupply.com/ used to have color charts back into the tens usable to find the code for a known color. Unfortunately, there is no paint code in the bike serial number, so if it was ever repainted and you can't find a patch of original paint, you can't find out what it was. The build sheet would have the color code on it, but those are usually tossed by the dealer mechanics when they set the bikes up out of the crate. At the factory, they don't keep build sheet copies very long and, considering how many they would have to sift through, they wouldn't want to look up a particular one even if they did have it.
I don't know if any exist for HD, but there are historic societies for some car and bike brands that collect such information. For example, there are some folks who have build spec's for nearly every Jensen Interceptor ever built. Good luck on your searching, maybe you would be able to find one for Harleys.
