Default carb question cv or makuni

Ok guys I have 68 xlch and it has a cv carb on it now #is 27490-96A now I had just purchased this bike the problem I am having is when I go to kick it over it is firing and a little smoke comes out of the carb/ airceaner I pulled the plugs and they were a little wet but black. Now I had called the Harley dealer and asked them if they had maybe a hotter plug he told me I have to becarefull which plug I run in this because it could do damage to the piston. I am running a autolite 216 plug in it now well then he had asked me about what kind of carb I told him and he said that is your problem. Now dont get me wrong I am a noob to all of this bike stuff he told me the carb is to big for the bike. He told me when I pull them plugs they should be a tan color. He said a makuni cab 38mm would be the rite carb for this bike easy starting I am lost here guys any help would be great here are some pics of the carb thats on there

Don't let ANYONE tell you there is something wrong with your scoot! It's PERFECTLY normal for it to "puff" a little smoke out the carb when it hits and doesn't start. This is normal. Run the standard recommended plugs, be sure to gap them correctly and you should be good to go. I had a `67 XLCH, MAG fired, for many years and got used to its little qwirks. It was agreat scoot. As for the carb, if it's a later model CV with the accelerator pump, keep it. Great carb and trouble free. I put one on an `83 just before I got rid of it last year. VAST improvement.

Oh, DON'T take it to the dealer for service questions, Find a GOOD local independant shop and you'll be a lot happier...
