Default Choke in the Summer?

I just built a softail harley with a Mikuni HSR 42mm. I'm finding that I need to use the choke a little each time I start it, even now during the summer. A buddy told me I shouldn't have to use the choke. If I don't use the choke, it will eventually start but it will crank longer than I like.

What do you guys think?

Thx!
D

use the choke, when it is cold , shouldn't need it on a hot restart.
if so then your idle jet mixture is too lean

Ignore your buddy! You found that your bike needs the choke - what goes on between you and your bike is jus' between the two of ya!
