Default Please help me read my plugs!

97 EVO fxdl

about 700 miles on a fresh top end

8.5:1 wisecos .030 over

cometic .020 base gaskets and .030 headgaskets

freshened the heads with 3 angle , viton seals

The bike had a crane hi4 ignition already installed by PO.

I removed the EV46 cam and installed the EV27

I pulled the plugs and am trying to be sure it isnt running too lean. It seems weird to me that both plugs dont look the same.

Here are few pictures of the plugs. The rear cylinder looks to me like it is running lean as its pretty white. The plug from the front cylinder looks more tan.

Let me know what you think.......Any insight would be greatly appreciated!! I am going to take it to a professional to be tuned as soon as I have the money but in the mean time I want to do whatever I can not to blow it up.

I would check the manifold seals on both cylinders along with the rubber carburetor seal as well. If those are tight and not leaking, you might consider opening up the slow speed jet a half turn.

v-twins will not read the same front and back...the front cylinder will run richer because it runs cooler. I assume the whiter plug is the rear cylinder? Tune to the rear cylinder and when you get it looking like the plug on the left in the first two pics you are fine. As pointed out though, make sure everything is up to par ( no intake or carb leaks, timing correct, voes working, etc.).
