Default backfiring after warm up

this problem just started when the weather cooled off a bit. i will let the bike warm up for 15-20 min and when i get on it to ride it will backfire very badly for the first couple of miles and then clear right up once it is warm. i have changed the plugs and it doesnt make a difference.

i just replaced the choke cable and was hoping that would help some but nothing with that either. the old plugs were a little black so i'm thinking it may be running a little rich.

is there anything i can try to adjust that wont mess up the carb????

Hello:

First is the backfire out of the carb. Or the exhaust ? Next is it just when you are accelerating ? And or running a steady speed ?

What kind of ignition do you have on it? It sounds like the timing is off, or it could be a leak in your manifold intake seal. Both easy to check & easy to fix. I had that same problem with my '98 Softail.
