Default Fumes

Aside from the bike running rich, I removd the fairing air deflectors. I rode 20 or so miles yesterday without them and no more exhaust in the face.

I've got an O5 too and I smell exhaust fumes when I'm riding. It's a carb model with an SE air cleaner. My old softtail had a carb and that air cleaner and I never noticed the gas exhaust fume smell. I didn't see your problem? Is that it too? Mine has the air deflectors on the side of the bat wing and the chrome ones on the forks. Is that what your removed? Any help is appreciated. I just rode about 200 miles today and I still have that taste in the back of my throat. Only had the bike a week, love it except for that. Also, the previous owner had just recently installed a Harley Dynojet kit in the carb, I was doing some checking in the garage and there is no gas fume smell on the left side, but when the bike is running, even idling it's really noticeable at the carb. My softail was a carb too and I put a thunderslide and a powertube in it and I never had the fume smell. I don't have any wet leaks I can see, I'm beginning to wonder if the kit was bad or he did something wrong. The bike runs fine though.
