Default Fuel Filter

I have been trying to get through all of my bike maintenace prior to the start of the heavy riding season. I have the HD service manual for my bike which is an 07 fuel injected softail Deluxe. In the manual I noticed that the fuel filter is supposed to be changed at 25,000 miles. I am over that. I talked with a dealer mechanic and he told me if I haven't changed one before that I should bring the bike in and have them do it due to the complexity.

The manual didn't make it sound to complex??? Is the mechanic yanking my chain. Has any one here changed one? Are there any tricks or things to look out for. I do most of my own maintenance on my cars and bikes so I am pretty mechanically inclined but just don't want to tak a chance on getting myself in a jamb.

Thanks in advance. I did a search on this but as usual couldn't find what I was looking for.

if your filter is not blocked so your are getting enough fuel it can stay where it is .Instead, cut your fuel pipe and put an inline filter in, very cheap very quick and easy to see any blockages\contamination in the fuel.

Thanks for the reply.

I think an inline filter may be a good idea but I think my existing filter may have issues. I have had some "cut out" during fast acceleration. There really has been no rhyme or reason to it. I get gas from various places so I haven't been able to track it back to "bad gas". So i thought it wouldn't hurt to replace the filter to maybe get rid of it.

Any other help would be appreciated.

Phil
