Question Falls on its face!!

1995 Sportster XLH 1200 - STOCK

Got it a month ago, had not seen much riding. It idled poorly so I pulled the carb and cleaned it.(Dirty, Idle Jet Clogged) Now when accelerating it falls on its face.(Idles GREAT!) I've gone over it again, several times. Per the service manual everthing is correct - enricher, vacuum piston, etc. However, I did over tighten the emulsion tube, (Like a total dumb ***, I've done this kind of work for years and know better) and damaged the tip slightly. Are these carbs so sensitive this could be my only problem or could it also be something else?

I will replace the emulsion tube as soon as I can get one from my steeler, just curious as to any one elses experiences.

Thanks.

what size of jets? drilled slide port? Dj kit?...

I have a '91 1200 sporty with a 45 slow and 190 main, n65c needle. everything else is stock, it's kinda rich but it runs out damn good!... the needle is what is too rich, I haven't had time to mess with it lately though....

Slow is 45. It idles very well but, It is running very lean in the low-mid range. I can block off the idle air passage and it runs perfect. I've replaced the intake gaskets but can't get them to seal properly- still leaking. Tomorrow is another day back apart again and retry.

Ya gotta get those leaks fixed first or you will *never* get it to run right no matter what you do to the carb

OK. After several hours and a few days it turns out that I had a total dumb *** attack in re-assembling my carb. I installed the Needle Jet (The little aluminum piece) upside down. Installed properly and it runs great. Oh well, it has been to cold to ride so it gave me something to do.
