Default Help with carburetor

Hello,

I have a problem with my carburetor. I have a 2002 Softail, and I cleaned the carburetor and changed the gaskets. I put everything back and noticed that gasoline was coming out of the needle tube when the bike is started without accelerating. Do you know where the problem comes from?

Sorry for my bad English, but I'm French.

Thank you for your help

Massimo

What was the issue that cause you to have to tear down the carb to begin with?

The issue is probably the needle and seat or float setting. Be sure until you get it fixed, to remember to turn off petcock when not running.

If you put a new float needle in it with the viton (plastic/rubber) tip, it may well be faulty. Many are very poorly made. If possible use genuine Harley parts, or USA made aftermarket parts.

I took the carburetor apart to clean it because the idle wasn't holding up. I put back all the original parts except the seals and the needle. (see photo)

Did you adjust the float according to the Service Manual? New needle = float adjust/check.

Also did you clean out the float needle seat?

Where did you get the gaskets/needle/rebuild kit from?

I took it apart and checked again. In fact I had not adjusted the float thinking that it was good. I looked in the manual and the dimensions were wrong. I fixed it and now it works fine.
I don't have any fuel coming out anymore. Thanks for your help.
