This, right here. Grind the face of a good SIX POINT socket as flat as possible, don't use a 12 point, and lean into it! Put as much pressure as you can straight into it to keep the socket straight and flush while turning.

steel insert, hummmmmm, haven't seen it but never say never
there are two issues
1. iron/steel and aluminum are dissimilar metals and they will cause electrolysis which fuses them together
2. the assy was over torqued and now there is a failure in the head material and when you try and back it out, thread locks.
