Default CV Performance MODs

Has anyone done the CV Performance MODs to the stock Kiehin carb?
Just curious what works, what doesn't, and what was a waste of time.
Thanks,
Chris

i know peple are gonna jump up and down and cry aobut this but.............

the best performance mod for the CV is to remove it and replace it with a MIkuni or S&S dependig on your use and application. There are lots of things you can do to the CV carb and dont get me wrong it works very well for the stock application it was designed for. If you are doing other internal engine mods, like cams, rasing compression and succh, it is better to get the mpre performance oriented carb. I could write a whole book on the reasons why, and many other people have written the books.

I appreciate your opinion, thank you!
I need to take the carb apart to sneak a peek. Figured while it was apart might as well play 😁
Cam and exhaust upgraded by previous owner.

I have the CVP velocity needle and their EZ just mixture screw. OEM factory 45 slow and 190 main and emulsion tube. K&N free flowing AC and Cycle Shack mufflers, Cam, etc (see signature). I run really rich at idle for some reason, but then I get reasonable air fuel mixtures when just above off idle.

I run a WEGO air fuel monitor on the front cylinder pipe. No complaints. Getting 42-45 mpg's steady cruise of 55-60 MPH on back country roads. I have one of the largest windscreens Harley ever made (original to the bike).

I have no complaints but am sure there is better out there (as well as could be worse). Bike runs smooth and cool, no fuel in the oil, and I like how the bike currently runs/performs. Am leaving well enough alone with the current set up I have.

Thank you for the feedback. I might as well have a little fun.

marcodarg nailed it!!!!! The CV-40 is an EPA CERTIFIED COMPLIANT carb. MIKUNI HSR is a PERFORMANCE carb. I had a Super E on my 72 XLCH. Put a YOST Power Tube in it and loved it. Improved throttle response and better mpg. Tried that on my TC Dyna all I saw was a small improvement in mpg. I tried the CVP version of the YOST for 1 month. Threw that crap out and bought a YOST kit. Sorry I wandered off subject. The point I'm trying to make is there are limits for how much improvements ya can make on the CV-40. There is a vacuum operated slide to regulate throttle response, and yes, it not instant. Takes the slide time to move up and down. Hence, whatever ya do to it you CAN NOT IMPROVE THROTTLE RESPONSE! Thank the vacuum slide/EPA Compliant for that. Runnin MIKUNI HSR 42 in my 105" Dyna and my Wife's 04 1200 Custom. Used 2 CV-40's for door stops for a few years. Got tired of kicking em around so I sold em on ebay.

ALMOST FORGET!!!!!! My Wife put her Hammer 570 cams in (Birthday Present) and I supervised. I Test Rode it. Was a nice improvement but felt like something is missing. Ordered a Mikuni HSR 42 easy kit. Got it up and running and Test Ride it. OMFG!!!!!! Pulled the tire up 1' on the 1-2 shift.

I used many parts from CV performance for my dads 99 1200S sportster. Top notch vendor in my opinion. Be aware though if you go with their performance emulsion tube you need to buy their jets so they fit. Stock jets won't fit. I test drove the bike todays and it ran 100% better as somewhere in it's history a dynojet kit was put in it. That kit was JUNK. The only change if I have the time to play with it is update the main jet to 185. I went conservative with a 180.
