Default Do I need to rejet?

I am currently running a stock carb air filter/cover on 1995 883, I want to get rid of it for a smaller air filter. Like a 6-7” round one.

Will I have to rejet my carb to do so?

No, it should be fine. Might have to tweak the air fuel mixture screw.

thanks for the reply.

What if I wanted to go even smaller, like a 5” air filter? Here is the link to the lowbrow product I’m looking to use.

a lot depends upon media type
there are flow calculators on the net you can use. an engine needs a finite amount of air so the surface area of the media must allow atleast that air flow, note this is for max rpm so lower rpm would be less of an issue. however, less area = more maintenance, they do not come with a restriction indicator.

I hate to sound ignorant but I’m not sure what you mean by media and less area = more maintenance?

media = paper, foam, clothe and such
stands to reason a smaller surface area will plug up quicker, that said, have to change or clean more often, but then again, some run open intake tracks.

so overall will I need to run different jets in order to ride with a smaller air cleaner?

Probably not but why choke your engine with too small of an air filter? It has to breathe.

it will be a open air cleaner. I would think it would get much more air into it now than with the stock one.

So can anyone give an answer on if it will require bigger jets or it will not require a re-jet?
