I also think you have either a vacum keak or a needle issue. No koney test, put a small washer under the needle and test ride it and evaluate. If it gets better, you know that you're on the right track.

Checked for leaks with propane.
None detected.
fingered the slide up and down
60 degrees here
Added 190 main as my 195 is still in the mail
test ride, no cough
added 4 discs to pipe no cough
added passenger no cough
running well
will probably fatten slightly later and advance the ign curve via the twin tec

Thank you all for your help

edit this is completely subjective but the combination of 2.88:1 gearing (changed previously) and this years engine upgrade make this bike a joy at 85mph

FWIW, engine is “happy” !

That sounds like you got it worked out! You need to buy some fresh plugs and do a chop test in order to get a good reading. There's several web posts on how to read plugs. Even timing marks on the strap. But, I'm curious as to why you want more if it's running fine now. I'm a bit OCD myself and alway think I can get more. I'm not a fan of some dyno tests. To me, it seems the tech is just trying to break your bike. If your end game is a racer keep going. But if it's something you can be satisfied with with a passenger then I'd be tempted to be happy. Congrats though!

the fwiw update: the above combination worked well but mpg was poor

replaced the 50 with 48
running perfectly
44 mpg @ 65-75 mph

Thanks for the update 88.

Good to hear you got the engine broken in enough to "dial it in." Mid 40's at interstate speeds is a very good mpg target.

Yes, definitely, you're going to go thru the fuel now. (My Dyna couldn't break 35mpg...)
But ran GREAT, for 21 years with this configuration. Only thing that sucked, was fuel range, as running out is a bummer...

the 44mpg I mentioned in post 24 is perfectly acceptable to me
same as recorded when it was 88 “
no complaints here

I had poor mileage on my Dyna with a flat slide racing carb. Like 32 mpg. But when someone asked me what the mileage was I responded "Who cares? It's fast and fun!"
