Default Mikuni jetting for V-111?

Hello all! New to the forum so I'll start with an intro, my name is Scott and I'm a mechanic in Philadelphia. I work at a motorcycle shop and with some trading came into a S&S V111 with a HSR42. Now I'm in the process of tuning and I'm a bit leaner than I would like to be, especially with a high performance motor. I was curious if anyone here has already tuned a set up close to this? It would save me some time, money, and aggravation. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

it doesn’t take much time and money to follow the mikuni hsr tuning manual and dial in the crab. I’d guess 180 main and go from there. The manual literally walks you step by step for each circuit to tune.

If you put a 180 main jet in that it will be drowning in fuel. 22.5 or 25 slow jet, but I'd try the 22.5 first, then 165-172.5 main jet.

Thanks guys. I understand I should just go and tune it by the tuning manual, I was just trying to get a baseline. Brand spanking new motor, didn't want to get anything too hotby running too lean or anything. I'm at a 25 slow jet, 160 main, needle is on the second notch from the bottom, accelerator pump nozzle is a 70. I'm a hair rich, which I don't mind, just having a hiccup on start up now. Doesn't want to fire without some throttle. I'll figure it out though. Thanks again for your input guys!

I figured that many cubes would take more. Guess not, my 48 hsr runs 195-215 depending on DA haha
guess I’m used to that and over guess main jetting on bigger cubes

how many more cubes??? it would have to be a monster engine and or a very poor exhaust system on that set up. i'vve tuned lots of 100hp plus and 100 inch plus engines on my dyno and RARELY had to go larger than 177 main jet.
what do you have?

Bump the pilot to a 27.5 and the main to a 165....see how it reacts.
Shy of a dyno tune, trial and error until you find a combo that you want/like.

I was ball parking the 111ci and was way off according to you and hillside. I’m used to My 76-77 CI Xl’s. Both 48 miks 185-195 on the street one and up to 215 on race one. U4.4 fuel in the race on.

77 CI, when I ran a Kevin benson racing super D main was 92-96. Also ran a SA RACING super D with custom jets from Steve. Yuuge jets running c45

There used to be a time where nobody in their right mind would put an S&S E carburetor on anything smaller than 100". But truth be to the fact that it's not about cubic inches it's about air flow and what your heads can do and how much your pump can displace. Now on these v111s that S&S is putting out they're sending them out with E-Series carbs, yes.. BUT...
Don't you think they're doing that just to meet EPA standards? I mean let's be realistic here, unless the heads on those motors suck and they're not moving enough CFM then yeah an E-Series carb will suffice.. I don't deal much with mikuni's or CV carbs and I know a lot of people swear by them, yes they're not bad but a HSR 42 on 111 cubic inch motor? Not sure it's going to be a good match.. I could be wrong but that's just my opinion..
