Default 1991 and earlier CV vs 1992 and up (big twin) - float

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to replace the float on the CV for my 1991 FXR. I notice there's a change in part number in 1992 and that float looks beefier.

Does anyone know if they're interchangeable or not? I'm wondering if the pin size or width anywhere has changed.

I can find a 92+ float but nothing prior.

Thanks.

It should work. Just be sure to follow the proper float level adjustment procedure.

I'm thinking it should, the pin is the same part number on both as well.

Attached is the carb float adjustment instructions from my service manual, they should be the same as the only real modifications to the HD CV carbs since 1991 is the float itself so the float height should be the same.

Thanks, and that's the same as in my FXR manual. It's interesting that the pic in my manual is of the "square" float as well.

I don't know if this is too late or not. Just joined. From experience, the cv carbs are all pretty much the same. But with a few minor differences, the float is one. Tried to put a newer style float in an older body and the float is too large to go in the body itself. Also, the pin on the newer ones press in tight and need to be driven out. Of you use the same pin from a late 90s to early 2000 cv on an earlier carb, it slides in and out on its own. This is just from my experience in what I'm going through right now. Because the body on my 02 softail is screwed and I have an older CV carb I am swapping everything over too. Everything fit except the float.

Thanks for the reply. I almost pulled the trigger on a later model float but didn't since my carb is working really well now - thought I'd let it ride.
