Guys,
can you tell me if the tune tray is large enough to hold an Iphone 5, and if so, is there any room left to possibly accommodate an upcoming Iphone 6?

No Sir. . . The 3 and the 4 will fit. The 5 will not. Too big. From what I hear the 6 will be larger than the 5. So the answer is no if that's the case.

 

You can jam it in but it takes some effort, just bluetooth it!

 

Then what's the point of having the tune tray in the first place?

 

IPOD, Memory stick/USB. I have a Samsung so I just use the Bluetooth.

 

The Sony 310 with the tune tray came out around August of 2010 and there was no IPhone 5. The phone technology is moving much faster than the HU technology. Just use your old 4 for downloaded music and use the 5 for bluetooth or pop in a USB stick with 4,000 songs on it. Be great for that 1,000 mile ride to Sturgis. . . lol (Just kidding)
