My audio buddy just told me to avoid the Sony MEX 5000bt series. Many volume/button issues. He never dealt with 70bt. He is a JVC fan though and really likes the KD-AR959BS
I can't comment on the 5000 series as I have the Sony MEX-GS610BT and haven't found 1 problem with it. Actually, the gang at Biketronics now sells the MEX-GS610BT.
based on the fact that the tune tray in the sony models cannot accommodate anything bigger/newer than Iphone 4, I think I'm going to go with Pioneer DEH-X9600BHS.
Any comments on this unit? How does it compare to some of the favorites?

I hear ya. I have owned both Kenwood and JVC's on the bike w/out issues. I find the JVC to be quite a bit more user friendly. That said, I might like the Sony better IF it is actually visible during the daylight. I can change lighting display on my JVC but still can be a PIA in daylight. Not worried about the marine portion/water durability portion so much...

For the newer Sony models there's an app for both the Android and Apple platforms called App Remote. It connects the HU to your phone (via Bluetooth); therefore, you control the sound from your phone. It's easier than looking at the HU's screen and turning a ****. This way, all of my music, GPS, audio books are all on the interface page and I can control all from my phones screen). The HU's also come with a microphone so that you can talk to whomever. Also, from your cell phone's screen, you can control and modify the sound. In addition to the EQ, you can control which of your speakers you want more sound from (for example, you can increase the volume of your 6x9's for more bass). You can have the sound centered. or appear in a variety of formats. I like these features and now, I can quickly change and modify my music by touching the screen of my phone. Not bad, huh?
