Street glide custom audio questions
I am in the middle of a 30" Custom Street Glide build. I am trying to figure out my audio configuration. I am running 2 6.5" speakers up front in the fairing and 4 6.5" in the bags. My thought is to use 3 amps. With my stretched bags I am thinking of using 1 amp in the bottom of each bag to run the 2 6.5" in each lid. 1 amp up front to run those 6.5". The amps I am thinking of using are the NEW Rockford Fosgate Power t400-2 amp. 400x2 RMS amp. They are super small and would fit perfect in bag without much space loss. My trouble is picking what speakers to use! No 6.5" speakers are rated for that power. My thought behind using the one amp per bag method was for easy of disconnect if I want to remove my bags for working on the bike. Pretty much all the wiring will be in each bag and not running from bag to bag across the bike. Or should go one amp up front and one 400x4 to run rear speakers? I want a crazy sound system on this bike I want to do it right. I have budgeted 2400.00 for speakers and amps.

You need to re-think your system.........4 of the 6.5 speakers in the back will not make you happy. Run 4 of the 6X9's in the back, off of 1 amp, then a separate amp in the front for the two 6.5 speakers.
Bad amp choice also. A class A/B amp is very inefficient, and a tough sell for an already power weak motorcycle.
If FM isn't an issue, you need to look at class D amps.
You need to read a lot of posts , and get a feel for what you can and can't do. Start with the thread in my signature line for some ideas. UltraNutz also has a custom system in his bike.
Many ways to skin a cat !! Do a LOT of research, and find a plan that best fits your wants/needs !

My advice: Erase the chalk board and start over !! Hope to hear from you soon !!!
GOOD LUCK !!!

$2400, eh? Ok.
1 pbr300x2 amp for fairing speakers $140
1 hogtunes 2nd amp bracket $40
1 Biketronics ultimate speaker kit with 4180 amp, Hogtunes lids, 6x9's and 7.1's for the fairing $1350
I set Pioneer TS-6902R speakers to face the rear wheel $70
Total is $1600 before you take into account a different head unit, paint for the lids, and wiring. All amps are contained in the fairing making removal of your saddlebags as easy as one quick disconnect.

Great info guys. Here is the deal. I already have quad 6.5" speaker lids and a custom inner fairing for 6.5" speakers. So the 6.5" are it for speaker size. I have been told use the Focal speakers and I have been told use Alpine too. So many opinions. Several have said Focal are the best. Pricey but really good. But then I heard another builder tell me they fall apart easily. I am interested in what the difference is in the class of amps? I also considered the 6x9 speakers but was told by two different award winning sound system companies that high quality 6.5" speakers will blow away any 6x9. That is why I pulled the trigger on the 6.5" quad lids.

You've been given some weird information.... You will NEVER have bass from ANY 6.5....compared to a 6X9............PERIOD........If you don't want/need bass, you can find some very good 6.5's out there.
If you want to go with the K series Focal, you will have a good speaker. Anything less, sounds sub-standard for the money.
Class A/B amps take too much power, and run hot.
Class D amps can interfere with FM signals.
What do these " award winning sound system companies " tell you to run ???
You could go with 6 of the Biketronics 7.1 speakers, and the 4180 amp.
What kind of bike are you working on, a Road King ?
Can you exchange the speaker lids, for the 6X9's ??

I spoke with these guys prior to buying my lids. They both told me to run the Focal 6.5" and that done right would sound the best. I also prefer the look of the lids over any of the 6x9 lids out their. I didnt get much more info out of them than that. I had single 6x9 lids and 7.25" in my fairing on my last bike. Sounded ok. Nothing incredible by any means.
I am building a 2011 Street Glide. Not a single part on the bike is left stock. Complete frame off custom 30" build.
I am not opposed to putting in a subwoofer. subwoofer maybe the guys I talked to earlier are wrong. Really scratching my head here.
I was told the PS 165 for Focal. Are you talking about the K2 series? About 400.00 a pair?

One of the long conversations I had prior to buying the quad 6.5" lids was with SoundzCustoms owner. He also told me the sub was pointless. This whole thing has me worried. With the stupid amount of time and money I have going into this build I don't want a sub par system. I really like the look of the quad 6.5" speaker lids I bought from 1-Off Creations. So I would like to come up with some way to use them. But yes, If I had too I could just sell them and buy something else.

Ok, what do you think of this combo? Not sure if this will help with low range tones. I was thinking of 6.5" mids with built in tweeters in fairing. lets say Polk Marine MM6501 that handle 125 RMS each.
Then the same pair of Polks or a Set of Hertz HCX 165 in the bags. One each in the front mount of the quad lids.
Then, for the rear mount bag lids I was thinking of going with a 6.5" subwoofer for low tone range. Like a Tang-Bang 6.5" subwoofer.
Any thoughts to that set up? obviously still need to figure out amp set up?
