Default HK vs Sony

Question......... I'm using J&M Rokker XT 7.25 speakers with J&M 250w amp with the stock HK HU. Would it make a difference if I was to switch out just the HU with an aftermarket Sony? I will still be using my amp and speakers spec at 2ohms.

A lot of people say the HK radio starts to distort early. If that's true, there is no doubt an aftermarket radio will make a huge difference.

If you don't use Bluetooth go with the 210. You will save over $100

Or go with a Kenwood 955HD, have bluetooth, and still save over $100.

no doubt on the truthfulness behind this. After it was brought to my attention at how early it distorted, I tested myself with the same conclusions. 30-ish % volume and that head unit is distorting pretty badly and only gets worse from there. There are a couple of solutions though..

1. obviously replace the head unit with something aftermarket
2. Lots of people want to keep the stocker, so send the head unit to Tony @ Iron Cross Audio and have him install a set (front and rear) of pre-amp RCAs for you. This is done pre the crappy amp stage in the head unit so your audio signal is much better.

How much does this cost? Is it possible to do yourself?

i'm very electrically adept at doing this but I wouldn't fool with it myself. Plus they give you a 1 year warranty on all services.

I think they charge something like $80 plus the flat fee repair charge.

Call or email Tony sir. he will certainly give you more information than I can.
